While they were stranded in New York City, Helen and Brian sought out shelter in a local drag club and decided to enter Helen into the drag contest to new the money they needed to return home. The contest hostess, Bella DeBall, signed Helen up for the contest and gave her a new name and costum (Escape from New York).
