Joe Hackett with his plane from Legacy

Cessna N121PP ("Cessna-November-One-Two-One-Papa-Papa") was a Cessna model 402 and the sole aircraft of Sandpiper Air. Owner Joe Hackett often treats it as his most prized possession.

History[]

In 1988, Joe Hackett purchased the Cessna N121PP when he founded Sandpiper Air (The Story of Joe/Wingless (Part 1)).

In early 1992, the plane crashed in the ocean after both engines gave out during a storm mid-flight from Nantucket to Boston. While everyone survived, the plane sank. However, it was able to be salvaged (Lifeboat).

Trivia[]

  • The series actually used three aircrafts for various scenes during production:
    • One 1989 Cessna 411 (N121PP) - The N121PP was destroyed in 1996 near the end of the series.
    • Two 1981 Cessna 402Cs (N121PB and N160PB) - These two planes are still active (as off 2022) and operating with Cape Air out of Hyannis, Massachusetts. Cape Air's slogan is "We're Your Wings".
  • In Return To Nantucket, Brian mentions that the plane is a Cessna model 402, but the actual Cessna N121PP was a 1989 model 411. However, the other planes used to stand in for the N121PP (the N121PB and N160PB) were model both model 402C.
  • The Cessna 402C accommodates two crew (pilot and copilot) and eight passengers, though because the FAA does not require an aircraft of this size to have a copilot, the front right-hand seat is often occupied by a paying passenger. This aircraft has a cruising speed of 163 mph, cruising altitude generally below 12,000 feet, and range of 1,465 miles.
