Cheers is a Boston pub, tavern and gathering hole located at 84 Beacon Street across from Boston Public Gardens in Boston, Massachusetts. Established in 1893, it has been owned by former Boston Celtic pitcher Sam Malone, except for a few years when it was owned by the Lillian Corporation. During this period, it was run by Rebecca Howe who hired Sam back as a bartender. Sam eventually got the bar back after warning the corporation of a hostile takeover from businessman Robin Colcourt. Sam soon hired Rebecca as the manager out of sympathy as she had lost her job for being partially complicit in the attempted takeover.
In the bar, Sam works as bartender, originally assisted by "Coach" Ernie Pantusso, and later by Woody Boyd, the Coach's old pen pal. His waitress is Carla Tortelli joined for a few years by Diane Chambers, a disillusioned intellectual. His regulars include Norm Peterson, Cliff Clavin and Dr. Frasier Crane among others. Crane even meeets his future wife, Dr. Lilith Sternin-Crane, in the bar.
Trivia[]
