Wings

Connor McDevon was an old fraternity brother of Joe Hackett, who was well-known for his very annoying laugh. He was played by Steven Eckholdt.

Bio[]

Connor McDevon was in the same fraternity Joe Hackett. One night during college, Joe purposed crossdressing to sneak into a sorority. According to Joe, the plan would have worked if he hadn't broken a high heel. This caper earned Joe the nickname "Skirts" (Exit Laughing).

In early 1992, Connor, now an oceanographer, was visiting Nantucket while studying whale feeding patterns in nearby Stellwagen Bay, and wanted to reconnect with Joe. Immediately drawn to Helen, Connor asks Joe to set them up, which he reluctantly does only after Helen also demands to be set up with him. On their first date, Connor takes Helen to a Jerry Lewis film festival where Helen learns that Connor has a very distinctively annoying laugh. Unwilling to admit Joe was right not to want to set them up, Helen continues to date Connor and goes out with him every night for a week before she finally decides to end their relationship. Sitting Connor down to break up with him, Helen is interrupted by Connor breaking up with her because he can't stand her Texan accent.

Trivia[]

  • In Exit Laughing, Brian described Connor's laugh as sounding like "a pack-mule after a double espresso" and Helen describes it as being "like a cold steel shaft being driven through [her] head". She also compares his laugh to a jackal, a hyena, and fingernails on a chalkboard.
