Bio[]

Cord Clayton was born to Edgar Clayton and his wealthy family. Although Cord constantly failed, his father continued to provide him with opportunities. Cord attended (and flunked out of) Harvard, UCLA, USC, SMU, NYU, UNLV, and an unnamed university/brothel outside of Guadalajara (Wingless (Part 1)).

After his son left school, Mr. Clayton purchased Sandpiper Air and, at the suggestion of Ted (Wingless (Part 1)/Wingless (Part 3)), made Cord its new president. Cord was overwhelmed with the responsibilities of running an airline, but, taking inspiration from rival Roy Biggins, did come up with one "really big idea" to start chartering private flights. To begin, he purchased a new luxury private aircraft and booked a three months tour with The Todds. Unfortunately, when The Todds broke up, Sandpiper was left with the bill. Unable to cope with the failure, Cord tried to run away by flying to London by way of New York (Wingless (Part 2)). With no other options, Joe, Brian, and Helen flew to J.F.K. Airport to search for Cord to convince him to come back. After finding Cord and inspiring him to give the presentation at Clayton Industries' quarterly progress report board meeting, Joe and Brian thought they were saved. However, under the pressure of presenting in front of his father, Cord ran away. When Ted helpfully suggested that Sandpiper could be a good tax write-off, Helen barged in to reveal that Ted was plotting to have Cord fail all along. Furious with Ted and apologetic to his son, Mr. Clayton allowed Cord to move to his hotel on St. Thomas to hang out by the pool, live off his trust fund, and to remaine a silent partner with Sandpiper (Wingless (Part 3)).
