Wings

David Schramm was an American actor best know for Broadway and for the role of Roy Biggins on the 1990s NBC-TV series, "Wings."
A Kentucky native, Schramm attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky and majored in English while also becoming intensely involved in theater. At the urging of his college acting teacher, he applied for and won a four-year graduate scholarship to Juilliard's newly formed drama school in New York.
During the summer of 1988, Schramm traveled to California to co-star with Rebecca De Mornay in "Born Yesterday" at the Pasadena Playhouse. This highly acclaimed and popular production brought Schramm to the attention of Hollywood, and he has worked steadily in television and film ever since.
Schramm has guest-starred on numerous television series, including "Jake and the Fatman", "Wiseguy", "The Equalizer" , "Miami Vice" and "Spenser: For Hire". He also provided the voice for one of the characters in the Disney animated series "Hercules". In addition, he has had leading roles in The Time of Your Life and the musical Cradle Will Rock, both for PBS. He also starred in a 1990 film "The Dreamer of Oz: the L. Frank Baum Story", a biographical film which starred John Ritter.
Despite his extensive resume on stage and film, Schramm was arguably best known for his role as Roy Biggins on "Wings," appearing in 100% of the episodes. In an interview regarding his time on the show, Mr. Schramm said he never minded being typecast as Roy, nor had any problem when fans approached him as such. On landing the part, "I turned to Rebecca and said, "I think we landed in a tub of butter'. And we did. My only regret was losing the money I made from the hit show by investing in the stock market, which went south in 2007. I should have been more prudent and hid the money in a mattress."
Following the show's retirement, Schramm dedicated himself to stage. Plays he starred in included "Waiting for Godot," "The Seafarer," and "12 Angry Men." In 2015, he was suffering from vocal issues. Accepting medical advice, Schramm retired from acting. At the time, he had been starring in a stage presentation of "The Butler" (which later got made into a movie starring Forrest Whittaker) and passed his role to an understudy.
Sadly, Schramm passed away on March 28, 2020 of a myocardial infarction at 73 years of age. One day later, his "Wings" co-star Tim Daly paid tribute to Schramm through a webcast in which he praised David Schramm's work on stage.
