Edgar Clayton was the C.E.O. of Clayton Industries and a wealthy investor that purchased Sandpiper Air to let his son run it. He was played by Mitchell Ryan.
Bio[]
Edgar Clayton was the wealthy C.E.O. of Clayton Industries, but was also the father of a chronically failing son, Cord. Although Cord constantly failed, Edgar continued to provide him with opportunities. After Cord was done with school, Edgar, at the suggestion of Ted, purchased Sandpiper Air and made Cord it's new president while presenting the investment as him being more of a silent partner to Joe and Brian Hackett (Wingless (Part 1)). However, Cord was quickly overwhelmed with the responsibilities of running an airline. When Cord ran away from his presentation at Clayton Industries' quarterly progress report board meeting, Edgar was ready to close down Sandpiper with Ted's helpfully suggestion of using in as a tax write-off. Fortunately, Helen arrived to reveal that Ted was plotting to have Cord fail all along. Furious with Ted and apologetic to his son, Mr. Clayton let Cord moved to his hotel on St. Thomas to hang out by the pool and live off his trust fund and remained a silent partner with Sandpiper (Wingless (Part 3)).
Trivia[]
- This character is listed as "Jonathan Clayton" in closing credits, but Antonio clearly refers to him as "Edgar Clayton" in Wingless (Part 2). Although it is possible that Antonio got his name wrong, the name "Jonathan" is never used for this character in actual dialogue.
- When Mr. Clayton verbally berates someone, it is referred to as a "Big Ugly".
