Helen Hackett - "Hang on, hang on. Okay, the grand total is...$250,000...Ah-ahhh-ahh! ...Yeah, that's it."
Joe Hackett - "We're rich."
Brian Hackett - "We're rich."
Joe Hackett - "We're rich!"
Brian Hackett - "Operator, we are rich!"
Helen Hackett - "Guys, guys, guys, what I can't figure out is h-- We're RICH! Where in the world did your dad get all this money?"
Joe Hackett - "You know, I just flashed on something. You remember when we used to visit him in the sanitarium, what was that thing he always said to us?"
Brian Hackett - "Would you please untie these?"
Joe Hackett - "Yeah, after that. He said, uh, he said I won a quarter of a million bucks at the track and I'm leaving it for you guys in a suitcase."
Brian Hackett - "Why didn't we listen to him?"
Helen Hackett - "I'd love to stay and chat but I going to go and buy a great big...something."
- Joe Hackett - "What do you mean? You want to leave?"
Brian Hackett - "Yeah, I want to leave. I'm rich! I want to go live on an island somewhere."
Joe Hackett - "You already live on an island."
Brian Hackett - "I was thinking perhaps an island where the winter suicide rate isn't quite so high."
- Roy Biggins - "Convince your bosses to sell out to me. You do that and I promise you there will always be a home for you at Aeromass, otherwise there will just be a home for you."
- Joe Hackett - "Helen, are you crying?"
Helen Hackett - "No, I'm just peeling onions."
Joe Hackett - "Honey, those are potatoes."
Helen Hackett - "Then I'm crying."
Joe Hackett - "Oh, hey, hey, hey, what is all this about Vienna? Antonio started to tell me but he went deaf."
Helen Hackett - "What?"
Joe Hackett - "It's not important."
Helen Hackett - "Well, some famous teacher heard me audition and invited me to study with him for a year. It's the chance of a lifetime, but who cares." [Helen starts to cry again] "These damn potatoes."
Joe Hackett - "
- Joe Hackett - "Let's not give up on this yet. Look, if you really want this, then we'll find a way to make it work. We'll get you another teacher. We'll get you the best cellist on Nantucket."
Helen Hackett - "I'm the best cellist of Nantucket."
- Roy Biggins - "Where are you going?"
Joe Hackett - "Hold on to your hat: Helen and I are moving to Vienna."
Roy Biggins - "Vienna? Germany?"
Joe Hackett - "No, no Roy, the other one, the one in Austria."
- Joe Hackett - "All I've ever really wanted to do was fly, right? And, uh, I've gotten to do that a lot. Well, now Helen has a chance to do want she wants to do and I'd like to give her that chance. It's her turn."
Roy Biggins - "I don't get it. What's in it for you?"
Joe Hackett - "The satisfaction of giving the person I love most in the world her dream."
Roy Biggins - "...If you don't want to tell that's fine."
- Roy Biggins - "Hey Cochran! Breaks over, get your can back behind this counter!"
Fay Cochran - "You know, I like to think positive. I believe every cloud has a silver lining. Maybe Roy will kneel over and I'll like the new guy better."
- Brian Hackett - "Oh, Casey, the flights about to leave. Where the hell have you been?"
Casey Davenport - "Having the time of my life. I mean, how often do you get to tell people exactly what you think of them? First, I told off my boss, then I hit the drycleaners, a couple of restaurants, you know anyone who ever gave me a hard time. And then I just sat in the park for hours flipping off people at random."
- Brian Hackett - "We're not selling. No deal."
Joe Hackett - "Brian, what are you doing?"
Brian Hackett - "Go."
Joe Hackett - "What?"
Brian Hackett - "I said go. I'll stay. I'll run Sandpiper, for a year. One year. You come back, it will be here."
Joe Hackett - "Brian, you know you don't want to do this."
Brian Hackett - "Ay! Just agree with me. Okay? Quickly, I don't know how much resolve I have in me."
Joe Hackett - "I don't understand why you're doing this."
Brian Hackett - "Let's just say it's your turn."
- Casey Davenport - "But-but you can't do that. I told off everyone on the island. I quit my job, I mean what am I supposed to do for work?"
Helen Hackett - "Well, I happen to know where there's an opening."
[Helen directs Casey's attention to the lunch counter]
Casey Davenport - "Oh, God, no."
Helen Hackett - "That's what I said on my first day, but you get used to it."
Trivia[]
- Final Approach, the series finale, originally aired as a one hour special episode. However, in syndication and streaming, the episode was broken into two parts.
- Two scenes was partially edited out of the syndicated episodes. The first depicts Helen counting the money in Joe's office with Joe and Brian. After counting up the $250,000, Joe reveals that while their father was institutionalized he mentioned winning quarter of a million bucks at the track and that he would be leaving it to his sons in a suitcase. Then Helen grabs a fist full of cash and leaves saying she is going to buy a "big...something". The second scene is a short exchange between Fay and Joe about her new job with Aeromass and wishing death on Roy. Although these scenes do not appear in syndication, they are still part of the episode on Wings Final Season DVD.
- When this episode first premiered the original opening credits were played in full for the first time since season three (though they were slightly edited to reflect the departure of Thomas Haden Church and the additions of Tony Shalhoub and Amy Yasbeck to the main cast). Although the opening credits are absent in syndication, they are still part of the episode on Wings Final Season DVD.
- The producers asked Thomas Haden Church to make a cameo appearance in the series finale, but he declined the offer. However, Church was in the audience for the taping of these episodes.
- This episode marks the first and only full appearance of the kitchen area behind the lunch counter.
- Helen claims to be the best cellist on Nantucket, but this ignores Winston Catlow, Becky Wilder, and the other two cellists the Nantucket String Quartet chose before her.
- On April 1, 2013 Funny Or Die posted a video titled The Wings Serenity Movie Project to prompt a KickStarter to fund a Wings movie. Obviously, based on announcement date and sponsor, this was a parody.
