Wings

Kenneth Margaret McElvery (better known as Kenny) was a young high school student hired as a swing pilot at Sandpiper Air. He was played by Michael Manasseri.

Bio[]

When Joe Hackett was temporarily grounded due to hypertension, he had to hire a new pilot to take the pressure off Brian. Kenny was one of three candidates. When Joe was paralyzed with choice, Brian picked Kenny (Friends or Lovers?).

While Joe was in the hospital, Kenny helped Brian with his wacky schemes to get more publicity for Sandpiper (My Brother's Back and There's Going to Be Trouble). While Brian was missing, Kenny had to take some extra flights. To accomplish this, Kenny gets his guidance counsel to sign a note saying he's going on a field trip because his guidance counsel will sign anything at the end of the day because he is pretty loaded by then. When Brian was going to marry Gwen Holmes and skydive, Kenny flew the plane (Love Means Never Having to Say Geronimo).

Kenny worked part-time at Ahab's Fast Fish because his part-time job with Sandpiper didn't pay very well (All in the Family).

One day while waiting to pick up Kenny, Melinda met Brian and he asked her out on a date not knowing she was Kenny's mom. Not wanting Brian to use his mom like he does other women, Kenny told Brian not to go out with her. However, Brian did go out with her but was severely bored. When Brian told Kenny it wasn't going to work out, it cause a rift between the two that Brian worked very hard to repair (All in the Family).

After Joe was allowed to fly again, Kenny was let go.

Trivia[]

  • In Friends or Lovers?, Kenny reveals that he is 18 years old and earned his pilot license two weeks ago, the same day he got his braces off.
  • In Friends or Lovers?, Fay reveals that Kenny has a B+ average and is the president of the chess club.
  • In All in the Family, Kenny reveals his full name is Kenneth Margaret McElvery. Margaret was the name of his great-grandmother who was a an Indian fighter.
  • Kenny disappeared from the series without explanation when Michael Manasseri was cast as Paul Hoover in Charlie Hoover (1991). However, it can be assumed that he was laid off or voluntarily resigned after Joe was allowed to fly again. It may have been surmised that Kenny continued his career in aviation, seeking to become employed by a larger airline.
