Little is known about Leonard Stanwyck's early life. At some point, he was institutionalized with Donald Hackett, the father of Joe and Brian, where he learned about the Hacketts (B.S., I Love You).
Without a family of his own, Leonard wanted to have the experience of being part of a family and decided to insert himself into the Hackett family. In early 1996, Leonard arrived on Nantucket claiming to be Grandpa Jack. Helen and Casey became suspicion when Grandpa Jack's stories seemed eerily similar to classic movies. When confronted, he admitted that he lied. Although he left, he seemed to have made a real connection with Joe and Brian.
