According to R.J., Luke started his own business (just like Roy). At some point, Luke met R.J. in Boston and they dating (Sons and Lovers).
After graduating from high school, R.J. moved to Boston to attend college and eventually passed the bar exam. He also met and began dating Luke (Sons and Lovers).
On February 29th, 1996, after Helen ran into R.J. in Boston and invited him to Roy's 12th birthday, R.J. believed that his dad had mellowed and invited Luke. When Luke arrived at the party, things escalated quickly and Roy started a fight leading to R.J. and Luke stormed out. After Helen berated Roy for his behavior, Roy rushed to the airport to apologize and reconcile with R.J.
