Wings

A shorten version of "Piano sonata No. 20 in A Major, D. 959, IV. Rondo. Allegretto." by Franz Schubert was used as the main theme of Wings.

History[]

As the theme song for Wings, a shorten version of "Piano sonata No. 20 in A Major, D. 959, IV. Rondo. Allegretto" by Franz Schubert was played over footage of the plane flying over scenic areas of Nantucket and surrounding areas. The theme song concluded with the plane landing and taxiing to the airport.

Wings

Wings

The original opening theme of Wings

The full opening theme song and title credits were used show at the start of every episode of the first two seasons and part way through the third season (ending with episode 11). In Marriage, Italian Style (season 3 episode 12), Tony Shalhoub was added to the main cast, and, from that point on, the opening theme song was replaced with the Wings title card accompanied by a short musical sting and the cast credits were played during the first scene(s) of each episode.

A jazzy version of "Piano sonata No. 20" was also played during the closing credits of most episodes.

Trivia[]

  • Schubert received screen credit as the theme composer in every episode.
  • "Piano sonata No. 20" was composed sometime between the spring and autumn of 1828.
  • For the series finale premiere on May 21, 1997, the original opening credits were played in full for the first time since season three (though they were edited to reflect the departure of Thomas Haden Church and the additions of Tony Shalhoub and Amy Yasbeck to the main cast). Although the opening credits are absent in syndication, they are still part of the episode on Wings Final Season DVD.
