Red Hastings was one of Brian's eccentric friends from Nantucket that he step up on a blind date with Helen Chapel. While on the date, Helen was turned off by his obsession with the color red. In addition to his red hair, Red has a red car, a red couch, a red cat (which he dyed), and he rented the movie Reds (1981) for his date with Helen (Crate Expectations).
