Sons and Lovers is the thirteenth episode of the seventh season of Wings, and the 135th episode overall in the series.
Synopsis[]
As everyone dreads Roy's 12th birthday, Helen runs into Roy estranged, gay son R.J. Biggins in Boston and invites him to the party. After six years of not seeing each other, Roy is happy to see his son, until Luke, R.J.'s boyfriend, arrives. Unable to handle his son being gay, Roy starts a fight. After being chided by Helen, Roy rushes to the airport to apologize. Meanwhile, Brian has to drive Antonio's cab for him.

- In 1997, this episode was nominated for the GLAAD Media Award in the "Outstanding TV – Individual Episode" category, but lost to Tracey Takes On.... Also nominated for this category in 1997 were Cybill, Living Single, Picket Fences, and Touched by an Angel.
- The original idea was for this episode was to revolve around R.J.'s gay wedding, but the producers scrapped the idea when they heard that Friends, another NBC sitcom, was doing an episode with that theme. Two days after this episode aired, Friends premiered "The One With the Lesbian Wedding".
- Since Roy was celebrating his 12th birthday in on February 29th, 1996 his actual date of birth was February 29th, 1948. Actor David Schramm who played Roy was born in 1946.
- Fay reveals she can hear everything that goes on in Joe's office.
