Establishing shot of Tom Nevers Field
Tom Nevers Field was main airfield on Nantucket and the primary setting of the series Wings.
History[]
Tom Nevers Field was the primary commercial airfield on Nantucket, often shuttling locals and tourists between Boston, the island, and other local cities. The main terminal was constructed in 1970 and renovated in 1988 (The Taming of the Shrew). The two main flight companies on the island are Aeromass Air and Sandpiper Air and both operated out of this airport. Three other businesses in the terminal are Helen's lunch counter (previously owned by her mother), and two car rental businesses in the corner (Commonwealth Car Rental and Pilgrim Rent-A-Car).
The field mechanic was Lowell Mather (seasons 1-6), who was later replaced by Budd Bronski in So Long, Frank Lloyd Wrong.
Trivia[]
- According to Lowell in Sleepless in Nantucket, there are 1,078 ceiling tiles in the terminal.
- In reality, the Nantucket Memorial Airport is the primary commercial airfield for the island while Tom Nevers Field is currently a park, not an airport.
